Cooperative governance

“We expect to contribute

positively and continuously

to the quest for operational

excellence under the Corporate

Governance precepts, not only

by Unimed do Brasil, but by

the entire Unimed System as

well, consequently causing the

Unimed brand to grow stronger

and stronger and the medical

work more and more valued,

competitive and modern, on a

true stage of transformation”

Eudes de Freitas Aquino

President of Unimed do Brasil

Eight classes of the Corporate Gov-

ernance in Cooperatives training

were offered in 2014. The course

was offered to the Unimed System

cooperatives in several regions of

Brazil. In general, the classes were

composed by cooperated physi-

cians with administrative functions,

directors and officers. Besides the

courses offered by Unimed do Bra-

sil and by the Unimed Foundation,

we believe that quite an expressive

number of Cooperative Governance

courses were taught in the Unimed

System, in as much as cooperatives

are also autonomous to develop

their own training in the subject.

Due to the cooperativist industry particularities, the Brazilian Corporate Governance Insti-

tute (IBGC) introduces the Cooperative Governance concept as being the “set of internal and

external mechanisms and controls allowing members to define and ensure the cooperative

objectives execution, assuring its continuity and the cooperativist principles”. In this context,

Unimed do Brasil, being a cooperative, adopted the “Cooperative Governance” term with the

purpose of using it in the Unimed System, adapting the good Corporate Governance practices

to the cooperativist world reality. By adopting these practices, we display our commitment

to transparency. Accounts settlement, equity and corporate responsibility, seeking to avoid

conduct deviations and management deficiencies. One of the biggest challenges of organi-

zations, the exercise of Governance, if duly adapted to the organization industry, leads to the

achievement of reliable and perennial results, when all stakeholders be satisfied.
