About the Unimed System

Unimed is the largest medical work cooperativist system in the world, and

also the largest medical assistance network in Brazil, present in 84% of the

national territory.

The System was born with the foundation of Unimed Santos (in São Paulo) Edmundo

Castilho, MD, in 1967, and today it is composed by

351 medical cooperatives

providing

assistance to over

21 million clients

all over the country. Unimed clients count on over

112 thousand active physicians, 113 own hospitals, and 12 day hospitals

, besides first-aid

units, laboratories, and accredited hospitals to guarantee quality in medical, hospital and

diagnostic complementary assistance. Besides holding

30% of the domestic health insu-

rance market

, Unimed has a captive recall in the Brazilians’ minds. According to a national

survey by Instituto Datafolha, Unimed is for the

consecutive year the Top of Mind

brand

as far as health insurance is concerned. Another highlight is the most trusted health

insurance by Brazilians award, received by the 13

consecutive time in the Reliable Brands

survey.

Unimed do Brasil – National Confederations of Medical Cooperatives

Unimed do Brasil – National Confederation of Medical Cooperatives – was founded in 1975,

40 years ago, to be the Unimed Cooperative System maximum institutional representative

entity, holding the brand and the cooperativism values. Its administrative registered office

is located in the capital city of São Paulo (at Alameda Santos, 1827 – Cerqueira César – São

Paulo/SP) and has two regional offices (Rio de Janeiro and the Federal District).
