Unimeds have various mechanisms and initiatives, some of which coordinated by the

Confederation and by the Federations, aiming at guiding suppliers to incorporate sus-

tainability attributes in the management, to a higher or lower degree. Even enjoying

autonomy in their management and having a suppliers chain with unique character-

istics, most Unimeds adopt an ethical and responsible stance in the selection of their

suppliers.

[G4-DMA]

This is shown by one of the Unimed Social Balance indicators referring to the selection

and contracting process. In 2014, among 231 Unimeds reporting the indicator, 61.04%

informed that the same ethical and social and environmental responsibility standards

adopted by the cooperative are suggested, while 33.77% informed that these standards

are required during suppliers contracting. Unimeds also have national and state com-

mittees for materials and medications negotiations, which assure mandatory legal re-

quirements, supplier reputability and behavior, among other attributes and best prac-

tices.
